A workshop titled ‘Dynamics of Parent Youth Conflict in Family’ was held at Divyadaan: Salesian Institute of Philosophy on the 25thand 26th July, 2018. The resource person was Fr. Paul raj Amal (INM). The workshop was organized in accordance with the directives of the General Chapter laid down in view of the Synod for Youth and that of the Mumbai Province. The workshop helped the participants, which included the students of philosophy the practical trainers, the SDB and FMA novices and the neighbouring religious, to understand the challenge that the young people and families face today.
The workshop proceeded in a very interactive fashion. On the first day Fr. Paul raj made the participants aware of the different problems that families face. He emphasized the fact that as youth workers we have to serve the young in the context of their family since it is the family that shapes the individual. The participants were also taught how to draw a family tree or genogram, which was then followed by a wonderful sharing of their own families and the discoveries they made during the exercise.
On the second day, the participants were enlightened on the different sources of conflict in the family which was then followed by a round of sharing their own experiences. To make it more practical the speaker exposed the participants to real-life cases and asked the participants for their response in line with the topics dealt with during the workshop.
The workshop was brought to a close with the vote of thanks proposed by the Principal, Fr Banzelao Teixeira.
